The parent experience

Unlike a typical education franchise, Brain Balance is focused on the holistic approach to helping kids who struggle with academic, social and behavioral issues.

Brain Balance is not your typical education franchise. We are dedicated to using an integrated program personalized to each child to help strengthen the brain and its connections through sensory engagement, physical development, academics and nutrition.

Our customized programs for children with challenges are designed to improve focus, behavior, social skills, anxiety, sensory processing, academics and more. Possibly one of the best ways to understand the differences between Brain Balance and a traditional education franchise is through parent testimonials like the ones below:

Jacob, age 9, exhibiting signs of dyslexia and autism
Before Brain Balance, reading was a big struggle. Math was beginning to become a challenge. He would have these spells where’s he’s corrected and he would just burst into tears or kids would do something that would upset him and just burst into tears. He’s been on the special education program since he was three or four. He would stand up, sit down, move all around. He could not sit still in a chair. Doing homework at night, he had to have something in his hands. If he didn’t have something in his hands I noticed him rocking back and forth.

The difference between the beginning of third grade and the end of third grade after Brain Balance, he wasn’t having his emotional outbursts over minor things. In fourth grade I have not had any teacher tell me he can’t sit still. No outbursts at all. Before, I would have to force him to sit down and do 15 minutes of reading. Now he’ll sit down all on his own and read and not have any problems.

Hudson, age 4, exhibiting signs of autism and trouble with speech
At 17 months old, Hudson lost all of his speech. Socially he did okay but he would have huge tantrums that … Because he was our first we kind of just thought, “Oh, this is what 2-year-olds kind of do,” but they continued. All the way through three, and they got worse. He had severe separation anxiety. We couldn’t leave him anywhere except with my parents. He would do good with them but they would have to stay at my house. I couldn’t leave them at their house with them. He couldn’t go to church. He would vomit, he would cry and just lose it in the nursery and things like that. It was very difficult when he was little. We struggled a lot around that time. He had great eye contact, and he was very sweet and snuggly. We knew it wasn’t full-blown autism, but we knew something wasn’t right.

He was about 3½ when we first heard about Brain Balance. We loved all the people; all the staff were so sweet and you could tell they really cared. They didn’t just talk to you about your one child, they talked to you about life and about your other kids just while sitting in the waiting room and stuff. We loved being there.

We noticed a huge difference right away. At his parent teacher conference she told us that he’s one of her best students socially, academically, everything. He’s right on track where he should be or above in every area of testing that they do, which was something that we didn’t expect to get to so quickly. I mean he’s only in kindergarten. We expected that this would take years of battling things and helping him learn and get back on track, and it just happened so much faster than we ever imagined.

Brooke, exhibiting signs of dyslexia, auditory processing disorder
Brooke was a normal teenager who did well socially, but had extreme difficulties with learning. Nobody seemed to know what was going on. We had the psychological testing done, which uncovered issues with dyslexia and auditory processing. Brooke had no intention of going to college. She was done with school. Brooke was working at a kennel because she loved animals. I knew in my heart there was something more for her.

It was so frustrating until I talked to a friend, and she gave me Dr. Melillo’s book, “Disconnected Kids.” It explained so much that had never been explained to me before. She graduated high school reading at an eighth-grade level, and had since regressed to a fifth-grade reading level. Brain Balance knew what to do.

We started seeing improvement right away. At the same time, I heard of a veterinarian-nursing school and I said, “Brooke, would you ever consider this?” But she said, “No, no. I can’t do that.” Halfway through Brain Balance, she said, “Mom, I want to see about that school.”

Today Brooke is in college studying anatomy, physiology, and cellular biology. She is living in an apartment, cooking for herself, and budgeting for herself. So many things have changed in her life, and she isn’t overwhelmed. It’s just so amazing. She’s so proud of herself.
